Imperfect/Transient: Don Porter's Environmental Exhibition at CREATE

October 13 – November 20, 2021

CREATE Center for the Arts is happy to announce that coinciding with the Gui Ignon Memorial Student Exhibition, Don Porter, a previous student of Gui Ignon, will be showing works from his Environmental Series in our Photography Studio gallery.
Porter, an award-winning painter, sculptor and photographer, has dedicated much of his recent work to the worsening climate crisis. Don makes “temporary sculptures” with recycled inanimate objects that he places in translucent baths of pigmented liquids and reflected light. As he subjects these concoctions to motion he photographs the sculptures as they transform, dissolve, disintegrate… cease to be what they were – all to serve as prophetic metaphors for our earth of tomorrow, as well as a clarion call for action to save our Gaia today.
As Don says, “I don’t know what Gui Ignon would think of the experimental works his long-ago student is making today, but I do know that I would not be an artist if it were not for him. And I am sure he would be delighted by CREATE and Debra Mumm’s generosity in honoring him with the Annual Student Exhibition.”

Don is donating 50% of the sales from his show to benefit CREATE Center for the Arts.
